San Antonio-Based Credit Union Gives Turkeys to 1,000 Educators for Fourth-Straight Year

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (November 4, 2023) – Firstmark Credit Union, in partnership with Spurs Sports & Entertainment, Trusted Capital Group (TCG), KLRN, and The Lonnie Walker IV Foundation, gave away free holiday turkeys, goodie bags, and more to 1,000 educators at their fourth annual Turkeys for Teachers.

During the event, educators and their families had a chance to hear live performances from local school districts. In addition, the San Antonio Spurs Coyote was in attendance helping to pass out turkeys and taking pictures with educators as they made their way through the line. The turkeys were provided by Firstmark, the Lonnie Walker IV Foundation graciously contributed all the side dishes, and the San Antonio Spurs gave ticket deals for teachers to attend future NBA games.

“Firstmark is proud to support teachers in our community,” said Nathanael Tarwasokono, president and CEO of Firstmark Credit Union. “Teachers are guiding lights in our children’s lives, and we want to celebrate them this holiday season. Their impact reaches far beyond the classroom, and we can’t thank them enough for their tireless work.”

Founded by educators, Firstmark continues to chart a course that celebrates their roots in education. Each year, Firstmark provides monetary donations to school district foundations, offers education grants to 20 deserving teachers, student scholarships for high school graduating seniors, and much more. Firstmark’s ability to give back would not be possible without their members, who play a crucial role toward making a lasting difference in the community.

ABOUT Firstmark Credit Union

In 1932, ten teachers signed a charter to begin San Antonio Teachers Credit Union and served members from the original location at Fox Tech High School. Firstmark has grown the initial $475 investment to almost 100,000 members and over $1 billion in assets and continues to advance a legacy of creating superior member value and inspired service. Today, the Firstmark Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Public Charity, exists to make a tangible, positive impact in the education community through the collective support of the membership. Firstmark has been recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal as a Best Places to Work for the last four years, an achievement made possible by employees who proudly serve one another and the members.
