Username and Password Protection Best Practices
To keep your information safe and secure in online environments, we recommend you use unique Online Banking Login ID/username and strong passwords.
Here are some tips and best practices to better protect you from fraud and identity theft. As a reminder, make it a habit to update usernames and passwords for all your accounts at least once every two-three months.
What Makes a Good Login ID (Username)?
- Choose a username that is easy to remember
- Make it simple. Avoid using too many symbols.
- Choose a username that’s appropriate for the account (ex. social media, bank, telephone)
- Avoid using your full name, address or phone number.
- Don’t use the same username and password combination.

How To update your Login ID and/or Password
- Log in to Online Banking
- Click on the profile icon in the upper right-hand side of online banking
- Click Security
- From here, you can change both your Login ID and Password
- If you’re unable to change your Login ID, please call our Member Care Center at 210.442.0100 or 800.683.1211 for assistance.
Forgot Your Password?
- Click Forgot Username/Password under the online banking login
- Follow the on screen prompts
What Makes a Good Password?
- Keep your passwords private. If someone is asking for your password, it’s a scam. Hang up or click Delete.
- Use different passwords for different accounts.
- Use strong passwords. The longer the password the better. It's recommended to be 9 characters long.
- Use a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numerals and special characters (!@&%$#).
- Make passwords that are hard to guess but easy to remember.
- Use sentences or phrases
- Avoid single words or a word preceded by a single number (e.g. Password1).
- Avoid personal information that others know about you or that’s on your social media (e.g. birthdays, children’s or pet’s names, car models, etc.)
- Password manager tools can help you store passwords.
