NerdWallet Names Reagan High School's Student-Run Firstmark Credit Union a "Top Pick"

San Antonio, TX – September 19, 2012-The Reagan High School Branch of Firstmark Credit Union has made NerdWallet's top pick list for student-run high school programs.

The student-run branch opened in February as part of a Financial Literacy Partnership with Northeast Independent School District's Ronald Reagn High School. The program includes a student-run credit union branch and curriculum support in financial literacy.

Students are hired by the Credit Union and receive the same level of training as other front-line staff. "It's amazing working with these students," said Branch Manager, Diane Bacon. "We've given them an opportunity to run their own credit union branch right at their school and they're doing a fantastic job!"

According to NerdWallet, "Student-run credit unions are a great way for youth to establish a healthy banking relationship and learn leadership skills."

Plus, students can take advantage of the Credit Union's free Cash-Back checking account. The account comes with access to 50,000 free ATMs in the United States and Mexico - including the one on campus which is wrapped with a "Rattler" the school’s mascot. The mascot is also on the student’s debit card.

"Establishing a student-run branch of the Credit Union reflects our roots in education and our commitment to the community," explained Leon Ewing, President/CEO of Firstmark Credit Union. "It's been a great way to teach students about managing their money."
